Ses nageoires sont grisâtres et sa caudale légèrement échancrée lui confère une excellente capacité natatoire.\u003C/p>\u003Ch3>Habitat et Distribution\u003C/h3>\u003Cp>Le bar commun fréquente les \u003Cstrong>eaux côtières atlantiques et méditerranéennes\u003C/strong>, depuis la Norvège jusqu'au Maroc. En France, on le trouve sur toutes les côtes, avec une préférence pour les zones rocheuses, les estuaires, les ports et les plages de sable. Cette espèce euryhaline remonte fréquemment dans les \u003Cstrong>estuaires et les cours d'eau\u003C/strong> à marée, supportant parfaitement les variations de salinité. Les juvéniles colonisent souvent les lagunes côtières et les zones de nurseries peu profondes.\u003C/p>\u003Ch3>Comportement et Mode de Vie\u003C/h3>\u003Cp>Poisson \u003Cstrong>grégaire\u003C/strong> à l'état juvénile, le bar forme des bancs importants qui se dispersent avec l'âge. Les adultes deviennent plus solitaires, excepté durant la période de reproduction. Excellent nageur, il effectue des \u003Cstrong>migrations saisonnières\u003C/strong> entre zones de nourrissage et de reproduction. Son activité est principalement crépusculaire et nocturne, particulièrement lors de la chasse.\u003C/p>\u003Ch3>Alimentation\u003C/h3>\u003Cp>Prédateur opportuniste, le bar commun adapte son régime alimentaire selon sa taille et la saison. Les juvéniles consomment du \u003Cstrong>plancton, des petits crustacés et des vers\u003C/strong>. Les adultes se nourrissent principalement de \u003Cstrong>poissons\u003C/strong> (anchois, sardines, sprats), de \u003Cstrong>crustacés\u003C/strong> (crabes, crevettes) et de \u003Cstrong>céphalopodes\u003C/strong>. Les femelles pondent entre 100 000 et 2 millions d'œufs pélagiques selon leur taille.
